Dear Neighbors and Fellow Residents of Boca Raton:
The future of our City should be in the hands of our citizens. Now is the time for neighborhood communities to make their concerns heard at City Hall.
It is my opinion that our City stands at a cross-road between responsible growth versus intense, high-density over-development. The persons you elect to our City Council on Tuesday March 10 will be making important decisions and I ask that you vote for me to ensure that your voice is heard during the decision making process. As a community activist I have a track record of standing up for and speaking on behalf of neighborhoods in order to protect our quality of life, including safety and traffic.
I have had the desire to serve on the City Council for over ten years and now at the age of 40 I feel that I am in the best position with regards to time and maturity to serve our community. I made a decision several years ago that before I would run that I would attend enough Council meetings to get to know the sitting Council, the City Staff and to become known as well. Because of my activism over the past three years, this objective has been met.
Through this process I am startled by the cronyism between developers and our City government. I feel as a resident you deserve a more representative Councilperson working for you. I am that person.
My first priority will be to make sure neighborhood residents have the opportunity to take part in the planning process of Boca Raton and to take the most important issues to a ballot including the City’s size, density and building heights. I will make sure you have a vote on the controversial proposed City-wide mass transit system that could allow five newly defined Districts in the City to become incredibly dense; enough so to justify mass transit. (You can read about the MMTD on the City website.)
My second priority will be to streamline the government and cut wasteful spending with care never to cut your essential services. I will implement a program that takes suggestions from employees to identify ways to save because they are our most knowledgeable resource in identifying waste. I believe the budget should be reviewed one department at a time to cut spending rather than to raise taxes or implement fees that only seem to grow over time.
Lastly I will work to make our neighborhoods a priority in the City’s future. You should have the piece of mind to know that someone on the Council is focused on working to mitigate the impacts of foreclosures on neighborhoods and to ensure safety of children and residents while the crime rate soars. I believe your family should have the opportunity to know the police officer assigned to your neighborhood.
My incumbent opponent for Seat D has a track record of originating ordinances that impede your ability to know about or participate in the Public Hearing process and consistently votes in favor of special interest rather than neighborhood interests.
I am confident that a vote for Anthony Majhess on Tuesday, March 10th will be your way to ensure that neighborhood residents have a voice, that government becomes transparent, that Boca Raton experiences healthy and balanced growth and that neighborhood integrity is protected from encroachment, traffic and crime.
As a career firefighter/paramedic I have dedicated my life to public service and to helping people. I am a native Floridian born and raised in a once tranquil Miami. I have a BA in Sociology from the University of Florida and I pride myself on being a no nonsense problem solver. I thank you for your time and would greatly appreciate your support in helping me have the opportunity to humbly serve you and your community.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and please Vote on Tuesday March 10th.
Sincerely,
Anthony J. Majhess
